Sgraffito Workshop on Tuesday, February 27th

from $60.00

Where: Hoofprint storefront at 3143 S Morgan
When: Tuesday, February 27th, 6-9pm
Who: Open to artists of all skills levels. Artists younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No experience with clay is necessary.
Cost: Sliding scale, $60, $80, or $100.

In this 3-hour ceramic workshop, participants will paint and carve leather-hard clay to create a graphic surface on a cylindrical tumbler and a 12’’ plate. Instructor Liz Born will create a thrown tumbler and a slab-built plate out of chocolate brown mid-fire stoneware clay, dipped in a thin layer of white slip.

During the workshop, we will add color by painting the surface with a thin layer of underglaze. Then we’ll carve through the top layers of slip and underglaze to reveal the iron-rich clay beneath.

All materials and tools provided. Participants are encouraged, but not required to bring preparatory sketches.

Liz will fire and clear glaze the wares following the workshop, and finished pieces will be available for pick up two weeks later at the same location. Pickup times are Saturdays, noon-5pm.
